The Ancient Forest is a discovery that a fisherman just stumbled onto through the modern wonders of GPS and bottom machines. The fisherman asked a diver buddy to go and dive the spot and tell him what he saw down there. The rest you might say is a “well kept secret”.
The dating of the site is considered to be 10,000 to 12,000 years old. This was a time when the gulf was considerably shallower, as much as 120 feet shallower 18,000 years ago (when the gulf was at its shallowest).
